We followed road signs to the Fort of Mutzig in France, having no idea what that was. Turns out it’s a GIGANTIC fort built by Germany to defend the Rhine valley from France (spolier alert: they got it anyway). The fort only saw battle once, at the very beginning of WWI, when it scared the crap out of the French and they retreated almost immediately. It’s 630 acres and housed 2,000 soldiers.

  1. This is very funny. The French are famous for retreating almost immediately, especially if there is a brothel just behind to hide in.
